Handbuilt figurative work based on the African female form. Fired to stoneware and decorated with a combination of slips, stains and oxides.

My work seeks to explore the beauty and movement of the female form and attempts to capture the fluid lines in three dimensions. Travelling and working in Africa during the mid-1980's has inspired my choice of subject matter and provides me with a rich and varied palette of colour, pattern and texture. I'm often asked if the dress patterns and colours l use are from a particular African country or tribe - they're actually created from a melting pot of old photos, the odd book or two and lots and lots of wonderful memories!
